Birth Order Research Essay

No Longer a Middle Child

Many times I’ve wondered, what if I never knew I had many things in common with a first born child? Recently we did a research of character traits a first, middle, and last child has. In my case I got to be a first born child. As the research went on, I realized I have many things in common with a first born but some differences as well. The character traits include an achiever, someone reliable, and taking a career in the medical fields. Some differences are to be serious and close-minded, which are most certainly not me. This leads me to explaining all my character traits as well as the differences.
The first two character traits that define me are being an achiever and being reliable. Beings an achiever defines me because as a person I set goals that I hope to meet and achieve them. For example, last year last year for my biology class I set a goal for myself to pass the class with an A just by studying hard and reading my notes everyday. In the end I achieved my goal with an A just like I wanted to. The second word that applies to me is being reliable. I consider myself a reliable person because I’m always there for the people I love. For example, my mom relies on me to push my brother to do his homework before he goes out to play because she knows I’m a positive influence on him which makes him want to finish his homework. That concludes the first two character traits that symbolize me and my life.
The last thing I found in common with the research is the interest of going into the medical fields in the future. This trait defines me because since I was little I have always wanted to become a doctor and pursue my goal. The profession I want to take is a pediatrician. The reason why this is my dream job is because I love kids and I get along with every age group, therefore I feel like I’d do a great job. This trait is one of the most valuable traits I found on the research because I would of never thought a first born would have a medical interest. This leads me to other shocking things I found on the research that were different on my personality.
The second set of traits, however, don’t apply to me. They are being serious and close minded. Being serious, in my opinion is not enjoying life. The reason why this word doesn’t define me is because I love to have fun and make people smile. For example, anytime one of my friends is feeling sad I try to make them happy by saying a joke. However, I do know when to stop. If I know that I’m not being serious enough about a topic while I’m talking it may seem as if I’m being rude, which I try to avoid. The second word, as well as the first, does not define me because I am not a close-minded person. The reason why this isn’t one of my traits is because I like to hear other peoples thoughts so I can learn from them. For example, in group activities I let others speak and share their ideas so in the end everyone can come together and make conclusions about whatever activity we were doing.
In conclusion, those are the 3 traits I found in common and the 2 traits I thought did not apply to me. I thought that this research was very interesting because I never knew I would have things in common with firstborns, as well as differences. This changed my views in many ways because some of the traits listed on the research shocked me in the sense of how people act and who they are. I think it made me think more about the different type of people out there and how not everything is as it seems.
